It requires a committed hike and climb to reach the top of this palisade in the Drumheller Channels. But there’s hardly a better place to unfold your mind and imagine what it would have looked and sounded like on days when a 500 foot-plus wall of ancient Lake Missoula floodwater was bombing through the channels at highway speed. This photo was taken looking northeast, in the direction from which the torrents would have arrived.
