There’s quite a bit in Washington’s geological basement that wasn’t formed in North America. This exposure of the so-called Swakane gneiss is part of a formation formed deep beneath the Pacific ocean, thousand of miles away from where it is now, poking its head out near Orondo, below the Waterville Plateau.
